At the Oregon Dunes Recreation Area, islands of Sitka spruce rise among the shifting sands overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The mysterious islands are also like tiny mountain oases in a desert of dunes. Here, the sun sinks towards the horizon in early summer, reflecting mirror-like on the ocean and casting cool shadows.
