This is not only one of my favorite views of the South Sister, but also a personal “happy place.” The contrast between the landforms, dry hills and lake, cold and warm, dense forest and open areas is pleasing and mysterious. The mountain looks simple from a distance but, like most Cascade volcanoes, up close it’s a complex series of peaks and valleys. At the top, the signature red cap denotes the South Sister’s “red mile,” a challenging slog through loose lava rock just before the summit caldera. This painting expresses the scale and distance of the mountain and land of contrasts with color and value.

Prints are 8 x 10 in. (same size as the original) plus a 1.25 in. white border where the print is hand numbered in series and signed by the artist. Final size is 10.5 x 12.5 inches.
